Overnight lane closures on Route 222 start Thursday for roadwork

Lane restrictions will take place on Route 222 in Lancaster County this week. The overnight work involves line painting and is part of a larger pavement preservation project. Drivers are advised to stay alert for slow-moving construction vehicles.

The work is scheduled between 8 p.m. on Thursday and 6 a.m. on Friday. Alternating lane closures will affect both directions of Route 222 in Ephrata Township and East Cocalico Township. The project also includes creating a new entrance to the Route 222 weigh station at the Adamstown/Knauers exit.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc., based in Bedford County, is the contractor for the $7.6 million scheme. The overall project covers a stretch of Route 222 between Mohler Church Road and Col. Howard Boulevard. Completion is expected sometime this spring. No other road or highway sections in Pennsylvania are currently reported to be affected by similar lane marking works.

The overnight lane restrictions aim to improve road markings and access to the weigh station. Motorists should plan for possible delays and exercise caution near the work zone. The project remains on track for completion within the next few months.
