The evening skies over Ukraine are plagued once more by a disturbing sight: swarms of drones flown by the Russian military. The drones are spotted Hungry over various parts of the country and are swiftly taken down by Ukrainian air defense. Initial barrages are reported from the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine. Residential buildings have been set ablaze, according to regional military administrator Vitali Kim's Telegram updates, though no immediate casualty reports are available.
🚨 Ukraine Declares National Day of Mourning 🚨
In light of the recent Russian missile attack on Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine has declared the 6th of April a national day of mourning for the victims. Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration (KRSA), and Oleksiy Kuleba, deputy minister for reconstruction, announced this via Telegram. "In solidarity with the victims and their families, a day of mourning will be declared in the communities tomorrow. From Kyiv to Odessa, from Kramatorsk to Uzhhorod, flags will be lowered and there will be silence," Kuleba writes. A period of mourning has been declared in Kryvyi Rih from Monday to Wednesday, April 7th to 9th, honoring the victims of the Russian army's attacks.
🚨 Silence Not Enough: Volodymyr Zelensky Warns 🚨
After his hometown of Kryvyi Rih was hit by a Russian missile attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calls on the world not to remain silent. "This attack is one of the darkest moments for Kryvyi Rih," Zelensky says in his evening video address about the missile attack. Global reactions show that many stand against Russian terror. "One must not turn a blind eye," Zelensky says. "It is wrong and dangerous to remain silent about the fact that it is Russia that is killing children with ballistic missiles," he says. "It only encourages the scum in Moscow to continue the war and ignore diplomacy. Weakness has never ended a war."
🚨 Report: Ukraine Strikes Rare Russian Tirada-2 System 🚨
Ukrainian forces are reported to have successfully destroyed one of the rare Russian Tirada-2 systems. Defense Express reports this, citing film material published by the Ukrainian military, which purportedly shows the hit on the system. The Tirada-2 was developed by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The Tirade electronic warfare system, also known as Tirada-2 or Tirada-2S, is a mobile complex for suppressing electronic radio communications.
🚨 The Three-headed Hydra: The Growing Danger of Neo-Nazi Groups 🚨
A disturbing trend has come to light, with the U.S.-based neo-Nazi terror group "The Base" calling for targeted assassinations and attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure. This information was revealed by "The Guardian". These targeted attacks are intended to destabilize Ukraine during peace talks with the Kremlin. "The Base" is a terror group with a network of cells around the world. It was founded in 2018 and has already been the subject of an FBI investigation into terrorism, which led to several arrests. Its leader is based in Russia. "The Guardian" writes: "Now that the FBI under the Trump administration is backing off from pursuing the far right, the uncontrolled Base is trying to export its violence abroad."
🚨 Expanding Defense Cooperation with Rheinmetall 🚨
Deputy Defense Ministers of Ukraine, Valerii Churkin and Sergiy Boev, met with Björn Bernhard, CEO of the German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall. The meeting's focus was improving cooperation between Ukraine and the defense company, as stated by the Ministry. "Given the current threats, new technologies and production capacities are crucial for Ukraine," says Churkin. "We are grateful to our German partners for their support in strengthening the technical capabilities of the Ukrainian military and advancing our defense industry. The settlement of defense companies in Ukraine and the production of modern weapons to high technological standards remain a key priority for strengthening the defense of our country." Rheinmetall is one of the first Western defense companies to produce in Ukraine.
🚨 Politics: Splits and Pressure Mount 🚨
- Hungary in the Crosshairs: Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna calls for EU politicians to take a tougher stance against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. In an interview with the "Rheinische Post", he accuses Orbán of playing into the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin. "We have a very weak country in Hungary that is playing on Putin's team, not ours in Europe." Tsahkna proposes temporarily stripping Hungary of its voting rights in important decisions, such as European foreign and security policy, using Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union if the security of Europe and its other members is threatened. "That's exactly what Orbán is doing."
- West Pressures Putin for Ceasefire Agreement: After the NATO meeting in Brussels, various NATO representatives call for a swift response from Russian President Vladimir Putin to a ceasefire agreement, which the US and Ukraine have already signed. "Russia owes the US an answer today," French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told Bloomberg. "It must be yes, it must be no - it must be a swift answer." Similar sentiments were expressed by Mark Rutte in an interview with US broadcaster CBS: "The ball is clearly in Russia's court (...) They are not moving fast enough, that's not just my impression, but also that of the American counterparts. Russia must do more to end this war."
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department issued a statement strongly condemning the Russian attack on Kryvyi Rih, targeting civilian areas and causing multiple casualties, including children. The U.S. again called on Russia to comply with its commitments and cease its aggression against Ukraine.
🚨 Another Day, Another Round of Russian Drone Attacks: The Situation Worsens 🚨
Unfortunately, the night of April 7th saw a continuation of Russia's escalating aerial attacks. The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) allegedly targeted fiber optic and explosives factories in the Russian regions of Samara and Mordovia using drones. According to "The Kyiv Independent", citing a source from the SBU, the factory in Samara is one of the leading explosives manufacturers in Russia. No casualties were reported, and emergency services are on the scene. The SBU continues to target Russian companies that are part of the military-industrial complex and produce weapons for the war against Ukraine. Such objects are absolutely legitimate military targets, according to the SBU.
Later in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the reaction of the US Embassy in Kyiv to the latest Russian missile attack in Kryvyi Rih as "weak". He criticizes US Ambassador Bridget Brink for not explicitly naming Russia as the perpetrator of the attack that resulted in 18 deaths. "Such a strong country, such strong people - and such a weak reaction," Zelensky writes in online media. He criticizes Brink for not using the word "Russian" when she spoke about the missile that killed the children.
While international bodies and governments react to these events, the people of Ukraine face an increasingly treacherous situation. The resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity remains an inspiration to the world.
- In response to the escalating situation, Ukraine has implemented an employment policy to strengthen its military capabilities by advancing defense cooperation with companies like Rheinmetall.
- The prognosis for peace talks between Ukraine and the Kremlin is uncertain as neo-Nazi groups such as "The Base" call for targeted attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, destabilizing the country.
- The international community has called for a ceasefire, and tensions are rising as some EU politicians, like Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, are putting pressure on Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his alleged support of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile, the US has strongly condemned Russia for its missile attack on Kryvyi Rih that resulted in casualties, including children, and criticized the US Embassy in Kyiv for its perceived weak response.
