A wildfire in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Pinares, Ávila, has escalated to a Level 2 emergency, indicating a severe threat to populations, property, and significant forest areas that require urgent control measures. The fire, which started on August 8, 2025, has burned approximately 650 hectares.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as of the latest reports. This fire has significantly impacted local infrastructure, including a complete suspension of train services between Ávila and Madrid due to the fire's proximity and dangerous conditions. Evacuations were ordered for residents in neighborhoods such as Las Navas del Marqués, specifically in Ciudad Ducal and the Barrio de la Estación, to ensure safety from the advancing flames.

Over 100 military emergency personnel, including Spain's Emergency Military Unit (UME), along with numerous aerial and ground units, have been deployed to battle and contain the blaze. Although the fire has been brought under some control, residents remain unable to return home given the ongoing risks.

The firefighting effort consists of two technicians, five environmental agents, six land teams, nine helitransported brigades, eleven fire trucks, one bulldozer, and eleven air resources. The firefighting effort is only available to registered users, a measure put in place to ensure efficient coordination and control of the situation.

This situation reflects the severe wildfire conditions exacerbated by the ongoing heatwave in Spain during 2025. Immediate measures must be taken for the attention and care of the population or protection of goods. The IGR-2 refers to a fire whose most unfavorable evolution could seriously threaten populated nuclei or infrastructures of special importance.

The fire started at 14:45 hours, and the Incident Command and Control Center (ICC) was raised before 17:00 hours to manage the emergency response. The ICC coordinates the actions of various agencies and resources involved in firefighting, evacuation, and recovery efforts.

Residents are advised to stay informed about the situation and follow the instructions of local authorities. The Junta de Castilla y León's information portal provides updates on the fire's progress and the ongoing response efforts.
