Over five fatalities and more than seventy injuries reported from Russian missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) strikes in various locations across Ukraine.
Hellfire Over Ukraine: Massive Russian Missile and Drone Attack Leaves Dead and Injured
In a chilling display of aggression, Russia unleashed a massive missile and drone attack on Ukrainian cities overnight on Friday, resulting in at least five fatalities and more than 70 injuries. This tactic came after Russian President vowed to retaliate "hard" following a Ukrainian operation against Russian military air bases.
Cityscapes turned into battlefields as Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, bore the brunt of the attack. Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, announced search and rescue operations were underway at multiple locations. Disconcerting explosions echoed throughout the city as debris showered down, sparking devastating fires across several districts. Air defense systems fought valiantly against the onslaught, but the sheer scale of the barrage proved challenging.
Residents were warned to seek shelter as air raid alerts were sounded in all Ukrainian regions, with multiple Russian bombers taking off for the assault. In the Solomyanskyi district, a fire engulfed a 16-story residential building on the 11th floor, forcing emergency services to evacuate three residents. Another fire broke out in a metal warehouse, adding to the chaos.
At least one Shahed drone detonated near an apartment building in the northern Chernihiv region, causing shattered windows and doors. Explosions from ballistic missiles were also recorded on the outskirts of the city.
In a message on Telegram, Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration, urged citizens to stay vigilant and protect each other. Despite the damage and casualties, no fires or injuries were reported on the metro tracks damaged between two Kyiv stations.
