Over 7,000 liters of liquor wine confiscated in Vila Real
The GNR, Portugal's national Republican Guard, has disclosed that an unapproved winery was discovered storing Port wine, a distinctive fortified beverage, in wooden barrels within unlawfully constructed facilities for the production and storage of goods subject to special consumption taxes.
As a result, it is estimated that the illicit sale of the seized Port wine would have denied the state approximately €6,200 in special consumption tax revenue. During the operation, a 67-year-old man was identified as the wine's producer and proprietor.
The inspection, spearheaded by the Fiscal Action Unit via the Porto Fiscal Action Detachment, in collaboration with the Institute of Douro and Porto Wines (IVDP), was part of a wider initiative to detect offenses involving goods subject to special consumption taxes.
