Over 600 residences in Kolodishche experience blackout
Power Restoration Efforts Underway in Kolodishchi, Belarus Following Severe Thunderstorm
A severe thunderstorm that hit Belarus on July 29, 2025, has left over 600 private homes in the village of Kolodishchi without power. The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that repair crews, emergency response crews, five cranes, and two drilling rigs are involved in the restoration efforts.
The storm also caused flooding in Kolodishchi and the nearby city of Minsk, with an additional 30 mm and 37 mm of precipitation recorded in Minsk and Baranovichi, respectively. As a result, several streets in Minsk, including Korotkevich, Borisovskaya, Belovezhskaya, and Volmanskaya Shliakh, were affected by the storm.
Energy workers are currently rerouting consumers to restore power in Kolodishchi. Six power line poles were found damaged due to falling trees caused by strong winds and rain. Cleanup of fallen trees is ongoing at the site in Kolodishchi, and new poles are being transported for repair work.
The Ministry of Energy has estimated that full power restoration for all consumers in Kolodishchi will be achieved by approximately 4:00 PM today. However, more detailed updates on the extent of outages and the status of electrical restoration in Kolodishchi are not yet available from current sources.
Monitoring local Belarusian news or official utility communications may provide more updates as they develop. It is important to stay informed and safe during these weather events.
Scientists studying environmental science might analyze how severe thunderstorms impact the weather and local ecosystems.
Once power is restored, researchers in the field of science, particularly environmental science, could investigate the potential ecological effects on the Kolodishchi village following the storm.
