Over 400 individuals affected by floods in Yakutia received financial aid
In the Sakha Republic, commonly known as Yakutia, the summer floods of 2025 have left a trail of destruction, submerging eight villages, numerous homes, and affecting nearly a hundred facilities. The floods have forced large-scale evacuations, with emergency situations declared in places like Oymyakon [1][3][4].
The Department of Water Relations of the Ministry of Ecology, Natural Resources and Forestry of the republic has been providing updates on the support for the affected residents. As of July 31, a total of 2131 applications for support due to summer flood damage have been received [5]. Out of these, 524 positive decisions have been made, with payments sent to 469 recipients, amounting to approximately 10.59 million rubles [6][7].
The preliminary damage assessment reveals that the flood has caused significant impact on various sectors. Infrastructure damage is estimated at 129 million rubles, with 82 regional and municipal road sections, 5 communication facilities, and 1 cultural facility affected [3]. Healthcare facilities have suffered 3 million rubles in damage, while educational facilities have been impacted to the tune of 1 million rubles [8].
Residential units and housing and communal services have borne the brunt of the damage. Preliminary data shows that 127 residential units have been affected, with 382 residential courtyards in the Oymyakonsky and Abyisky districts flooded, housing 1387 people [9]. The damage to housing and communal services is estimated at 15 million rubles, and residential units at 52 million rubles [10].
The support for the affected residents includes one-time material assistance and financial assistance for loss of essential property [11]. However, the preliminary damage to financial assistance to citizens is estimated at 16 million rubles [12]. The total preliminary damage from the summer flood in Yakutia is estimated to be 217 million rubles [13].
As of today, the support efforts remain ongoing, with 274 applications for support due to summer flood damage having been rejected as of July 31 [14]. Anisya Ignatyeva, head of the Department of Water Relations, provided an update on the support during a recent briefing.
