At a recent meeting of the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in St. Petersburg, representatives from Kazakhstan and other member states discussed key issues aimed at enhancing cooperation in combating crime, drug trafficking, and illegal migration.

Yerzhan Sadenov, Kazakhstan's Minister of Internal Affairs, led the discussions, emphasizing the need for collective solidarity and a sustainable security framework across these areas.

Thirteen organized criminal groups have been dismantled in Kazakhstan this year, with a total of 119 CIS citizens arrested in connection with these operations. Three of these groups were transnational and involved in synthetic drug trafficking.

The ministers of internal affairs of the CIS countries agreed on new measures to jointly combat crime, drug trafficking, and illegal migration. These actions include operational-preventive measures and personnel training across CIS countries, coordination via entities like the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center and the Bureau for Coordinating the Fight Against Organized Crime, addressing illegal migration challenges collectively, strengthening capacities in forensic activities and road safety, and countering destabilizing factors that affect social and political stability.

A proposed initiative is to establish a unified center for combating crime within the CIS to further consolidate and streamline joint efforts among member states. This center aims to enhance efficiency in fighting crime across the region by centralizing coordination.

While no new details about the agreed-upon measures to jointly combat crime, drug trafficking, and illegal migration were mentioned, the recent joint efforts by CIS countries, including Kazakhstan, focus on enhancing cooperation in these areas through coordinated law enforcement actions, information sharing, and improving operational capabilities.
