Breaking In the Moscow region, an unexpected weather event took place last night, with a cyclone bringing wet snow and strong winds, causing ice buildup on power lines and numerous trees falling. This has led to power outages in several populated areas.

Official reports state that 237 power lines and 4,400 transformer stations were affected. The hardest hit cities were Taldom, Dmitrov, and Sergiev Posad. Crews from Rosseti, Mosoblenergo, and emergency restoration services are currently working to restore power, though a timeline for the restoration hasn't been set.

According to the Fobos weather center's lead specialist, Yevgeny Tishkovets, in the last 36 hours, 70% of the monthly precipitation fell in Moscow, and due to unusually cold temperatures, snow covered the city. Snowdrifts in Moscow reached 7 cm, and in areas like Klin and Dmitrov, they were as high as 15 cm. Tishkovets predicts that the snow will melt in Moscow by May 3, while it may take until May 5 for the most heavily snowed-on northern areas to clear.

Moscow Department of Transport has advised drivers to use winter tires or take public transport due to the adverse weather conditions. Citizens have been warned about potential delays in surface transport due to the bad weather. Forecasts suggest that the snow will stop falling in Moscow by midday.
