Freshening Up the Defense Drills

Get ready for an escalation in the annual defense drills, as the Ministry of National Defense has announced a significant boost to the number of reservists participating! With an additional 5,000 troops joining the ranks, the combat readiness of our reserve force is set to skyrocket, following the ministry's policy to enhance its military might[1].

Last year's Tung Hsin mobilization exercise was quite a spectacle, with a grand total of 14,647 active-duty service members and reservists participating, an impressive increase of 2,032 from the previous year[1]. This year, the number of reservists taking part in the Tung Hsin exercise will surge even further[1].

The Tung Hsin exercise is held in conjunction with the Han Kuang military exercises, which serve to evaluate reservists' ability to swiftly assemble into a fighting force or provide assistance to police, first responders, or civil defense teams[1]. Mark your calendars, as the Han Kuang exercises will unfold from July 9 to 18 this year[1][2][3].

According to Hsia Chen-kuo, deputy head of the All-Out Defense Mobilization Agency's Mobilization Management Division, more than 20,000 reservists will participate in the Tung Hsin exercise this time around, a figure that represents at least 5,000 more reservists than last year[1].

To prepare reservists for real-life combat scenarios, trainees will be familiarized with firing pistols and rifles in standing, kneeling, and prone positions[1]. This increased participation is partly due to an expansion in the number of regional reserve brigades[1].

In line with the ministry's policy to transform the reserve force into a more combat-ready arm of the military, this year's increase in reservists plays a crucial role[1]. Goals vary, from improving joint combat and training capabilities across the army, navy, and air force; to holding increasingly realistic drills to match battlefield conditions, and reinforcing cooperation between military forces and civilians[1].

The ministry also aims to achieve autonomy in national defense technologies, establish a complete national defense supply chain, expand international collaborations regarding defense affairs, and maintain top-notch talent within the military[1]. Buckle up for a robust defense showcase in the coming weeks!
