The Gaza Strip, a region that has been in the spotlight of global attention, has been the target of escalated military operations by Israel since a large-scale attack by Hamas was launched on October 7, 2023. This attack marked the beginning of a war that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.

The city of Gaza, along with refugee camps such as Al-Mawasi, located in the heart of the Gaza Strip, have been included in Israel's military operations. As of August 2023, the specific death toll due to these operations is not available. However, reports from early 2025 indicate that approximately 47,540 Palestinians lost their lives during the Israeli military retaliation following the Hamas attacks in October 2023 [1]. This conflict is identified as the deadliest escalation in the region, with casualties on both sides.

Regarding hostages held by Hamas, no concrete information is available as of August 2023. However, according to Hamas authorities, more than 49 hostages are still being held in the Palestinian territory, two years after the attack. Of these, it is estimated that only 22 hostages are still alive, as per the Israeli army. These figures, though not independently verified, are considered realistic by the United Nations.

The initial attack by Hamas and its allies was an unprecedented large-scale assault on Israel, resulting in the death of more than 1200 people, according to Israeli reports. The conflict has been ongoing, with Israel conducting large-scale military operations in the Gaza Strip, aiming to restore peace and security in the region.
