Out-of-doors therapy for Kyle Tucker's strained calf as Chicago Cubs gear up for postseason play
The Chicago Cubs are facing a challenge as their right fielder, Kyle Tucker, has been sidelined with an injured left calf. Tucker, who joined the Cubs from the Houston Astros in December, has been out of action since September 2 due to a calf strain.
The medical treatment group that helped Tucker with his calf injury in 2021, the Houston Astros' medical staff and rehabilitation team, are once again tasked with making him available before the playoffs. Manager Craig Counsell accompanied a member of the Cubs medical staff to Florida to seek treatment from this group.
Counsell has expressed concern about Tucker's injury as he's not responding to treatment. The manager revealed that Tucker's injury wasn't related to any specific incident. Despite the setback, Counsell remains optimistic that Tucker will play before the playoffs.
As of the time of this article, Tucker has played in 133 games this season and is hitting .270 with 22 homers and 73 RBIs. It's crucial for Tucker to play in regular-season games before the playoffs to gain momentum and contribute to the team's success.
The Cubs clinched their first playoff berth since 2020 on Wednesday. They will open a four-game series at Cincinnati on Thursday. Tucker is expected to rejoin the Cubs in Chicago next week for a six-game homestand that will end the regular season.
The Cubs' six-game homestand is a concern for Counsell, as the dwindling days could potentially limit Tucker's recovery time. The calf strain that Tucker is dealing with has caused him to plateau in his recovery, as mentioned earlier.
Kyle Tucker agreed to a $16.5 million, one-year contract to avoid arbitration with the Cubs. The Cubs are hoping that Tucker's return will bolster their lineup and increase their chances of making a deep run in the playoffs.
The Cubs will be looking forward to Tucker's return, not just for his offensive contributions, but also for his defensive prowess in the outfield. His presence will undoubtedly boost the team's morale and provide a much-needed boost as they prepare for the playoffs.
