Osun APC Leaders Back Bola Oyebamiji's 2026 Governorship Bid Announcement by NIWA Chief
Osun State Politician, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, Declares 2026 Governorship Bid under APC
Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the incumbent Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has announced his intention to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a gathering with his supporters, including youth groups and the Osun Progressive People's Forum (OPPF), held at the Tinubu/Shettima campaign office, Oyebamiji formally declared his aspiration to become the governor of Osun State. He subsequently led his supporters to the APC state secretariat to formally inform the party executives of his intention.
Addressing the crowd, Oyebamiji stated that after consultations with party leaders about his aspiration, he was declaring his intention. He expressed confidence in his ability to win the APC's gubernatorial ticket, citing his experience in both the private and public sectors, including his tenure as Finance Commissioner in Osun State.
Oyebamiji emphasized his belief in the mismanagement of the state under the current government and pledged to rescue Osun State with his leadership. He pointed out that he had garnered experience serving under President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Marine, which he argued made him suitable for a national assignment.
Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, led the chorus of endorsements for Oyebamiji's candidacy. Speaking on behalf of other party leaders, including former Commissioner for Information under Rauf Aregbesola's administration, Chief Sunday Akere, former Water Resources Commissioner Raheem Tadese, and other aides of past governors, Owoeye expressed confidence in Oyebamiji's ability to lead Osun State.
This declaration comes as the APC prepares to tackle the opposition parties in the upcoming election. Oyebamiji's announcement marks the beginning of a new phase in the political landscape of the state, as more contenders are expected to throw their hats in the ring in the coming months.
