Ostallgäu vows to keep all three struggling hospitals open despite mounting deficits

The Ostallgäu district is facing serious financial pressure due to rising hospital costs and government funding cuts. District administrator Zinnecker has pledged to keep all three local hospitals open, including the ones near me, despite a growing deficit. The situation has been worsened by a €1.8 billion reduction in federal support for municipal services, particularly around federal holidays 2025.

The three hospitals in Kaufbeuren, Füssen, and Buchloe are running an annual shortfall of around €11.9 million. The Ostallgäu district must cover half of this deficit, with the city of Kaufbeuren responsible for the remaining amount. Zinnecker, who also sits on the supervisory board of the Kaufbeuren-Ostallgäu hospital group, has insisted that all three sites will remain operational.

The district must now find ways to balance its budget while keeping all three hospitals running. Zinnecker’s commitment ensures no closures of hospitals near me, but the financial burden remains heavy. With federal cuts and shared responsibility for the deficit, long-term solutions will be needed to stabilize the region’s healthcare funding.
