Osimhen Makes History: First Nigerian to 10 UEFA Champions League Goals
Victor Osimhen scored his 10th goal in the UEFA Champions League, leading Galatasaray to a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. This strike made him the first Nigerian player to reach double digits in the prestigious tournament and earned him the man-of-the-match title.
Osimhen's goal came from the penalty spot in the 16th minute, securing a crucial win for Galatasaray. This goal also saw him surpass Obafemi Martins' record of 9 goals, making him the most prolific Nigerian in Champions League history.
Osimhen's impressive performance did not go unnoticed. He was replaced by Cyriel Dessers during a Nigeria international match due to injury, and at club level, coach Okan Buruk had planned Baris Alper Yilmaz as his substitute during Osimhen's ankle injury period. Mauro Icardi was not the first-choice replacement at this stage.
Victor Osimhen's 10th Champions League goal has cemented his place in Nigerian football history. His performance against Liverpool has further highlighted his growing influence on the European stage.
