Oscar Nominations to be Announced - Oscars 2024: Blood & Sinners and One Battle After Another lead a fierce awards race

The 2024 film awards season is heating up as the Oscar nominations draw near. This year’s race includes strong contenders like One Battle After Another, which recently dominated the Golden Globes. The Academy will reveal its shortlist on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. GMT.

Two films are leading the Oscar buzz: Blood & Sinners and One Battle After Another. The first, directed by Ryan Coogler, is a 1930s-set horror film exploring racial segregation in America. Its historical themes and bold storytelling have already sparked discussion.

The second, One Battle After Another, has built momentum after sweeping the Golden Globes. Its success there positions it as a frontrunner for multiple Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, Germany has chosen Looking Into the Sun, directed by Mascha Schilinski, as its entry for Best International Feature Film. The category’s 2023 nominees included I'm Still Here (Brazil), The Girl with the Needle (Denmark), Emilia Pérez (France), The Seed of the Sacred Fig (Germany), and Flow (Latvia). This year’s ceremony will take place on March 15.

The nominations announcement will confirm which films and filmmakers are in contention. With Blood & Sinners and One Battle After Another leading the pack, the race promises fierce competition. The winners will be revealed at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles next month.
