Oscar Isaac Stars in Guillermo del Toro's Fresh 'Frankenstein' Adaptation
Netflix and Guillermo del Toro are set to bring a fresh take on Mary Shelley's classic 'Frankenstein' to screens this autumn. The original novel, published in 1818, will be reimagined in a new film starring Oscar Isaac as the ambitious scientist, Victor Frankenstein.
The story of 'Frankenstein' began as a short tale, later expanded into a novel during the 'year without a summer' in 1816. Mary Shelley, then just 19, conceived the idea while staying in Switzerland with a group of writers, including Lord Byron and Percy B. Shelley. The novel has since inspired numerous adaptations, from the 1931 film starring Boris Karloff to the 1960s sitcom 'The Munsters'.
Del Toro's upcoming film promises a unique retelling of the classic tale. Oscar Isaac takes on the role of the brilliant yet egotistical scientist who creates life through a monstrous experiment. Jacob Elordi will portray the creature, a 2.40-meter-tall being stitched together from various body parts and brought to life by electrical shocks. The trailer, recently unveiled by Netflix, offers a glimpse into this new interpretation.
Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' is slated for release on October 23 in select theaters and will stream on Netflix from November 7. With Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi in the lead roles, this adaptation aims to breathe new life into Shelley's timeless story. Fans of the original novel and classic monster movies alike can look forward to a fresh take on the classic tale.
