Organization's actions led by JaPa Chairman GM Quader are temporarily suspended by the court.

The ongoing internal disputes within Bangladesh's Jatiya Party (JaPa) have taken a legal turn, with Judge Md Nurul Islam of Dhaka's First Joint District Judge Court issuing a temporary injunction on Jatiyo Party Chairman GM Quader. The injunction restricts Mr. Quader from engaging in any organizational activities within the Jatiyo Party.

The court's decision comes after a case was heard at Dhaka's First Joint District Judge Court on 31st July, filed by 10 plaintiffs against GM Quader and JaPa Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam. The same restriction has also been imposed on Mr. Alam.

The internal strife within the party, centering around leadership and decision-making within the party's central structure, has been marked by leadership conflicts, expulsions of senior leaders, disagreements over the party constitution, and growing mistrust among senior members. GM Quader, the current party chairman and brother of the late party founder Hussain Muhammad Ershad, has been central in these conflicts, having expelled key senior leaders including Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Senior Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, and Co-Chairman ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, accusing them of breaching party discipline.

These expelled leaders and their supporters reject the expulsions as "illegal, undemocratic, and unconstitutional," claiming they still hold their positions and have no intention of leaving the party. In response, they have been mobilizing grassroots support and staging press conferences to assert their stance. The leadership crisis is deepening as GM Quader’s camp reportedly draws up lists to expel anyone siding with the dissenters, which is exacerbating fears of a party split.

The court's directive does not alter the temporary injunction previously issued on GM Quader and Mahmud Alam, nor does it provide a new court order type, date, or hearing date. The court's Bench Assistant Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the development.

It is important to note that the court's directive does not suspend or reverse the suspension of the expulsion of 10 individuals from the Jatiyo Party. The ongoing internal disputes within the party are significant enough to have legal interventions impacting party leaders, underscoring the need for resolution and compromise within the party's ranks.

  1. The hearing at Dhaka's First Joint District Judge Court on 31st July involved a case related to policies and legislation, as it centered around the legality of actions taken within the Jatiyo Party, particularly the expulsions of senior leaders.
  2. The ongoing internal disputes within Bangladesh's Jatiya Party (JaPa) have gained relevance in the arena of general news, as the court's decisions and directives regarding the party leaders have taken a political turn, creating tension and raising concerns about the party's future unity.
