Florian Badstübner: A Rising Star in the World of Football Referees

Florian Badstübner, a name that has become synonymous with fair play and precision in the world of football, has had an extraordinary journey to the top. His career began at the tender age of 13, when he decided to hang up his boots and take up the whistle instead, following his father's encouragement.

Fast forward to 2025, and Badstübner found himself joining the exclusive circle of FIFA referees. This milestone marked the beginning of a series of significant appointments in both international club tournaments and top-tier domestic matches.

One of his earliest accomplishments was officiating a match in the 2025–26 UEFA Europa League qualifying phase on July 10, 2025. This was followed by the refereeing of a high-profile club friendly between Bayern Munich and Lyon on August 2, 2025, and the Telekom Cup match between Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur on August 7, 2025. These appointments underscored Badstübner's growing recognition in the world of football.

In the 2020/21 season, he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, and since then, he has been officiating in Germany's top-tier domestic matches. His European adventures continued in the 2025/26 Europa League qualifiers, where he officiated a match between Hapoel Beer Sheva and Levski Sofia, held in Nyíregyháza, Hungary.

Despite his high-profile status, Badstübner remains grounded. He travels to his assignments by car, and even cleans his locker room after games. He is on a first-name basis with all the players, a testament to his approachable nature.

In a heartwarming gesture, Chairman Sponer of his local club presented Badstübner with an original polo shirt from the Ostschwaben referee group. Sponer was deeply impressed with Badstübner's presentation, even suggesting that he could wear the polo shirt while mowing the lawn or washing his car.

Remarkably, Badstübner admitted in Igenhausen that he sometimes pinches himself to make sure his FIFA referee status is real. This humility, coupled with his dedication and hard work, has propelled him to the top of his field.

Interestingly, Badstübner quit all social media channels at the age of 25, choosing instead to focus on his refereeing career. Despite this, his impact on the field speaks volumes about his commitment and passion for the game.

With a career that spans over two decades and counting, Florian Badstübner continues to set the standard for fairness and precision in football refereeing. His journey is a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and a love for the beautiful game.

Florian Badstübner's European adventures extended in the 2025/26 Champions League, where he officiated a group-stage match between FC Barcelona and Manchester City on September 15, 2025. His prowess in the field was further acknowledged as he was selected to referee the UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and Manchester United on August 13, 2026.
