Organ replacement with a flute
The IDO-Festival is gearing up for its official anniversary concert on October 4th, marking 20 years of bringing music and culture to the city of Düsseldorf. This year's celebration promises to be a memorable one, with a diverse lineup of events and performances.
Intendant Dr. Frederike Moeller expressed her pleasure with the anniversary program, stating, "We have worked hard to create a program that reflects the spirit of the IDO-Festival and showcases the talent of some of the world's finest musicians."
The official anniversary concert will feature a new production called "My Name is Human", with soloists from Düsseldorf and a special performance by actor Johannes Hegemann. The Big Noise Ensemble will also be performing, adding an exciting element to the concert.
In addition to the anniversary concert, the festival will offer a variety of other musical events. On October 3rd, Martin Herchenroeder's commissioned work for recorder and organ will have its premiere, with Dorothee Oberlinger performing. This piece will be followed by another premiere on the same day, as "Organ & Suona" makes its debut in St. Lambertus.
For those interested in learning more about improvisation, the IDO-Festival is offering a full-day organ workshop for the first time. This workshop will take place in St. Gertrude in Eller, where participants will be guided by renowned organists. The organ used for this workshop is designed for experimental music, providing a unique and inspiring environment for learning.
On October 25th, Anna Lapwood, winner of the Opus Klassik award, BBC presenter, and titular organist at the London Royal Albert Hall, will perform in St. Antonius. Her concert program will include works by Hans Zimmer, Robbie Williams, and Olivia Belli, promising an eclectic and entertaining evening.
Simon Rummel is also contributing to the festival, writing a piece for chest organ and ensemble on commission from the festival. This work will have its premiere on November 16th in the Sammlung Philara, making it another must-see event for music lovers.
With more genres covered than ever before, the 2025 IDO-Festival is shaping up to be an unforgettable celebration of music and culture. Whether you're a seasoned music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, there's something for everyone at this year's festival. Don't miss out on the chance to be a part of this musical extravaganza!
