Oregon temporarily halts football player Jurrion Dickey's participation
Oregon Ducks Wide Receiver Jurrion Dickey Suspended Indefinitely
In a significant development for the Oregon Ducks football team, head coach Dan Lanning announced the suspension of wide receiver Jurrion Dickey. The suspension comes following multiple incidents of fighting with teammates and staff, as well as violations of team rules regarding respect and punctuality.
Dickey, a former five-star recruit, has played in 15 games over two years with the Ducks, amassing only two catches for 14 yards. Lanning did not specify the reasons for the suspension, but he did mention that both the team and Dickey required a break to focus on current priorities.
The suspension leaves the Ducks thin at wide receiver, a position already compromised by the offseason knee injury suffered by Evan Stewart, the team’s projected No. 1 target. Stewart, the Ducks' top returner, could miss the 2025 season as a result of his injury.
To fill the void left by Dickey and the potential absence of Stewart, the Ducks are looking to other players. Florida State transfer Malik Benson is expected to contribute, along with seniors Gary Bryant Jr. and Kyler Kasper, and redshirt juniors Justius Lowe.
The Ducks enter the 2025 season ranked No. 7 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll. Despite the suspensions and injuries, Lanning suggested that Dickey might return to the team as a contributor in the future.
The team's two team rules, as stated by Lanning, are "be respectful" and "be on time." These rules underscore the importance of maintaining a positive and disciplined environment within the team, especially in the face of adversity.
The Ducks will look to these rules, their talented players, and their strong team spirit as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming season.
