Oregon temporarily halts athletic participation for running back Jurrion Dickey
Oregon Football Wide Receiver Jurrion Dickey Suspended Indefinitely
Oregon Ducks football has been hit with another blow as wide receiver Jurrion Dickey has been suspended indefinitely by head coach Dan Lanning. The suspension comes following multiple incidents involving fights with teammates and staff, as well as breaches of team rules regarding respect and punctuality.
The immediate cause of the suspension is reported to be a fight that occurred on a recent Sunday between Dickey and an unnamed member of the receiver room. Coach Lanning cited violations of two key team rules: "be respectful" and "be on time." Lanning stated that both Dickey and the team needed a break from each other to focus on the present.
The suspension further weakens Oregon's already diminished wide receiver room, following the offseason knee injury of Evan Stewart, the team's projected top target. Stewart, who had 48 catches for 613 yards and five touchdowns in 2024, suffered a torn patellar tendon in spring practice and could miss the 2025 season.
Dickey, despite being a highly touted former five-star recruit, contributed minimally in two seasons with only two catches for 14 yards. However, his presence added depth to the receiver corps. Oregon must now rely on other receivers like Malik Benson, Gary Bryant Jr., Kyler Kasper, and Justius Lowe to fill the void in the passing game.
The timing of the suspension, just before the 2025 season opener against Montana State, could complicate preparation and offensive game planning. Oregon finished the previous season strong as a top-ranked team, and the loss of Dickey and Stewart could pose challenges for the team's offensive depth and strategy as they enter the new season.
Coach Lanning has stated that he wants the best for Dickey and hopes he can return as a contributor, either with the Oregon Ducks or elsewhere. However, Lanning implied that the suspension could become more permanent if Dickey decides that's his best path forward.
As of Wednesday morning, Dickey remains on Oregon's team roster and unofficial depth chart. Traeshon Holden, another wide receiver for the Ducks, is currently training camp with the Dallas Cowboys.
