With key players like Tusk, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz (PSL), Szymon Hołownia (Poland 2050), and representatives from The Left, this diverse coalition represents a broad spectrum of political ideologies, united by a common goal: to offer an alternative to the ruling party in Poland.

A United Front Takes Shape

"I feel immensely satisfied to deliver this good news on the eve of Independence Day," declared Donald Tusk, head of Civic Platform. This new consensus among parties will guide their actions moving forward, he added. Tusk, Ko, and their allies are prepared to take responsibility for their homeland.

The New Agenda

The coalition agreement emphasizes shared values and objectives while respecting each party's individual identity. It focuses on legislative reforms, including touchy subjects like abortion rights and Europe's future. The alliance also expressed its readiness to shoulder collective responsibility for Poland's future and the broader European Union.

Szymon Hołownia, leader of Poland 2050, commended the agreement, stating that it is an impressive four-year project. During the conference, he assured that none of the parties would lose their identity within the coalition. Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, PSL's leader, asserted that more shared ground exists between the coalition parties than differences.

Highlights of the Coalition Agreement

The following points outline some of the significant aspects of the coalition agreement:

  1. Securing Polish safety through the rebuilding of the national community, strengthening their position in the EU, and the North Atlantic Alliance, and a strengthened army that is efficiently managed and equipped with modern equipment.
  2. Restoring the independence of the justice system by aiming for apolitical structures in the National Judiciary Council and the Supreme Court. Striving for a justice system that is fair, uninfluenced by politics, and where the prosecution is impartial.
  3. Pay raises for teachers and public service workers. Low wages are a concern across these sectors, so the coalition promised to present appropriate legal acts ensuring wage increases within the first hundred days of government.
  4. Increased healthcare spending, the abolition of limits on treatment by the National Health Fund, debt relief mechanisms for hospitals, as well as more realistic pricing for healthcare and universal access to psychological and psychiatric help funded by the state.
  5. Streamlining the education curriculum, focusing on developing skills related to new technologies, synthetic thinking, and group cooperation. Psychological care will be accessible in all educational institutions. A depoliticized, independent school environment will be ensured while promoting values of modern patriotism, inclusivity, human rights, and the richness of Polish culture.
  6. The annulment of the 2020 Constitutional Tribunal's ruling that made it impossible to perform abortions due to fetal defects. The coalition advocates for women's right to decide about themselves and special support for couples planning parenthood, including financing in vitro procedures and free prenatal tests.
  7. Equal status for all citizens, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The coalition prioritizes combating hate speech and acts of hatred, revising the criminal code so that hate speech based on sexual orientation and gender is prosecuted ex officio.
  8. Collaborating to combat climate change and protecting the environment.

Shaping a New Era for Poland

As Poland faces significant national decisions and continues to play a crucial role in European affairs, the world watches to see how this new coalition addresses the challenges ahead and steers the country towards a new era of governance and international cooperation.
