In a rather electrifying twist, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) has made its move to challenge the Union in the latest poll published by Insa for the "Bild" newspaper. Both parties now share an impressive 24.5% support, leaving the Union facing a diminished 2-point margin compared to the previous week. Meanwhile, the AfD's upsurge boosts it to a record high in Insa polls.
At the February 2025 federal election, CDU and CSU jointly earned 28.5%, while the AfD saw a noteworthy 20.8% support. Over the past weeks, the Union has observed a steady decline in polls, all while the AfD experiences a remarkable surge. This trend was previously highlighted, with both parties sharing a 24% tie in another Insa poll for "Bild am Sonntag" over the weekend.
The newest Monday poll positions the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in third place at 16% (up 0.5%). Similarly, the Left party has skillfully managed to keep pace with the Greens, both sitting at 10.5% - though the Greens see a 1.5-point reduction, the Left remains steadfast. The BSW maintains its position at 4.5% (unchanged) and the FDP follows suit with a 0.5% increase at 4%.
In the course of this survey, conducted between Friday and Monday, Insa consulted 2,008 eligible voters, resulting in a maximum margin of error of plus/minus 2.5%.
While the voting landscape you mentioned might not precisely mirror current figures, the shifting sands of German politics are evident. The AfD's rise and the struggles faced by traditional political entities indicate a changing electorate, with concerns like immigration and economic policies driving these shifts.
