Opinion Pieces: Journalism is Essential for Exposing the Government's Deceptions

Speakin' Out: In a series of hard-hitting articles by Anita Chabria and Steve Lopez, they're calling out the BS that's fueling the president's attack on LA ("Newsom decries democracy's assault on June 11;" "LA's invasion by the prez? More like a hot mess on June 9").

George Orwell hit the nail on the head when he said, "Newspeak is all about shuttin' down your thinking." It's no surprise that our president, along with his cronies, reduce their "press conferences" to a bunch of twisted lies, just like the BS about the LA invasion, the city's burnin' to the ground, and the whole of California. They're lyin' about immigrants, about the right to protest, about soldiers puttin' out fires (that the prez started himself). They saying askin' questions is un-American, and that everyday activities ain't part of the American way of life.

A regular vocab for native English speakers runs from 20K to 35K words. But Trump seems to only got one-tenth of that. Talkin' sense is easy for him, all he's gotta do is repeat his lies as many times as he can, keep 'em simple and stupid.

As Chabria points out, leaders like Gov. Gavin Newsom set the direction for us; Lopez writes that our neighbors show us the way. We gotta follow. Your journalism is helpin' Americans see through the president's plan to limit our thinking.

George Orwell's observation on Newspeak resonates with the current situation in California, where the president's rhetoric seems to stifle rational thinking. In the face of consistent misinformation, journalism plays a crucial role in fostering informed public opinion and counteracting the administration's strategies to manipulate narrative.California's political landscape is marked by a heated debate over immigration, with the president's opinions contributing to an atmosphere of division and distrust. The local issues of Los Angeles and California extend beyond general news to encompass crime, politics, and the broader implications of war-and-conflicts on society, all of which are influenced by the polarizing opinions at play.
