Vice-President Dhankhar Compares India's Operation Sindoor to the US's Take-down of Osama bin Laden
Operational Sindoor compared to the U.S. operation that resulted in Osama bin Laden's death by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar likened India's recent Operation Sindoor to the U.S. military's elimination of Osama bin Laden in 2011, during a speech at Jaipuria institutions on Saturday. Describing the Indian strikes on nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as the "deepest-ever cross-border strike" by India, the Vice-President drew a striking parallel to America's bold move against the global terrorist responsible for the 9/11 attacks.
Referring to the similarity in challenging the global terrorist, Dhankhar emphasized, "Just as the U.S. forces dealt with the global terrorist responsible for the 9/11 attacks, India has taken decisive action against terror threats on its borders." He didn't name Osama bin Laden but highlighted that India had accomplished something significant, saying, "Bharat has done it. And done it to the knowledge of the world."
The Vice-President commended the operation as setting a new global benchmark by targeting terror organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba while upholding the spirit of peace. He pointed out that, for the first time, precision strikes were carried out deep across the International Border on strongholds of terror groups, resulting only in the elimination of terrorists.
Dhankhar talked about the Pahalgam terror attack in April, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists. He explained that contrary to empty rhetoric, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message following the incident was a response to the deadliest attack on civilians since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. He termed India's retaliation through Operation Sindoor as "remarkable," reflecting the country's ethos of peace and tranquility in the face of barbarity.
In the backdrop of the comparisons made by the Vice-President, Operation Sindoor is a coordinated precision military strike launched by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, 2025, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. This operation marked a significant doctrinal shift in India's counter-terrorism approach, characterized by deep strikes inside Pakistan and PoJK territory.
In contrast to secretive, surgical strikes like the one against Osama bin Laden, Operation Sindoor was a broader military campaign involving multiple high-value targets and overt use of advanced precision weaponry as a retaliatory message. The operation's boldness established a new doctrine of visible retaliation against terror sponsorship, using conventional military means and showcasing tri-service coordination.
Finance ministers worldwide are closely monitoring the impact of India's Operation Sindoor on the global market, as it represents a significant shift in India's counter-terrorism strategy. Further, the decentralized finance (DeFi) industry is intrigued by this bold move, as it could set a new standard for decisive action against terror threats, much like the way sports teams often respond assertively when faced with challenges on the field.
