Exploring Jerusalem's Divided History: A Talk with Yfaat Weiss
Operation Unsuccessful
Mark your calendars for a captivating talk on Tuesday, 10.06.2025, 19:00! Join us at Kantine, Friedrichstr. 2110969 Berlin, or tune in via livestream. Doors open at 18:00, and admission is free - but reservations are a must.
Historian Yfaat Weiss, fresh off the release of her book "Failed Mission: The Divided Jerusalem and the United Nations," is our special guest. She'll delve deep into the little-explored story of an UN enclave in Jerusalem during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and its aftermath up to the Six-Day War in 1967.
Apart from being a lecturer of Modern and Jewish History in Jerusalem and Leipzig, Yfaat was awarded the Hannah-Arendt Prize for Political Thought in 2012.
Our website Talk will be moderated by Jan Feddersen, our beloved editor, curator of our website lab, and author of numerous books, including those on identity politics and the Berlin Sonnenallee after October 7.
So, grab a ticket, sit back, and immerse yourself in the history that still resonates in our present, starting from the contested city claimed by all three monotheistic religions, Jerusalem. We'll discuss the UN's unsuccessful attempts to establish peace, the disputed sovereignty claims, the relocated National Library holdings, the abandoned Hebrew University institutes, the biblical zoo, the neglected World War I soldiers' cemetery, and the Palestinian village of Issawiya in the heart of the enclave.
