Duisburg's New Central Administration Building Opens Doors

In the heart of Duisburg's Südstadtquartier, a significant milestone has been reached. On Wednesday, September 3, Mayor Thomas Kufen officially inaugurated the new administrative building at Kruppstraße 16, marking the relocation of the Central Foreigners' Office, Citizenship, and Foreign Affairs Department.

The modern and spacious edifice, spanning over 17,300 square meters, has been extensively renovated and adapted to meet the demands of a contemporary administration. The new building now provides a home for a total of 453 employees, including those from the Municipal Integration Center (KI).

Visitors will find a welcoming environment with a spacious entrance area, a clearly structured service, and appropriate waiting areas equipped with WLAN hotspots, call monitors, and self-service terminals. The working conditions for employees have also been significantly improved with modern offices and functional equipment.

Mayor Kufen emphasised the importance of administrative buildings as places where the city becomes visible to its citizens. He stated that the new building is a visible sign of the service orientation and welcoming culture of the city. It is, he added, a significant signal to all those seeking a new home in Essen.

The previous premises of the Foreigners' Office were no longer suitable for years. The new building, rented for a period of 30 years, has undergone a comprehensive renovation to ensure it meets the needs of a modern administration.

Thomas Kufen thanked all those involved who contributed to the successful implementation of the project with great dedication. He expressed his gratitude for their hard work and commitment, ensuring the smooth transition to the new premises, which took place in May 2025.

With this new administrative building, Duisburg continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing modern and functional conditions for both its citizens and employees, reinforcing its reputation as a city that values service and welcome.
