As FC Bayern Munich marches towards the Club World Cup, their sports director, Max Eberl, has shed some intriguing light on the reason behind Florian Wirtz's decision to join Liverpool over Bayern. "I'm not so sure if we'd managed to meet the fee that Liverpool appears to be shelling out," Eberl said, from Bayern's quarters in Orlando.

According to reports, Liverpool is rumored to pay up to an astonishing €150 million to Bayer Leverkusen for Wirtz. The 22-year-old eventually opted for a liverpool soiree over Bayern after extensive tête-à-têtes.

"Obviously, the entire club conveyed that the lad's a phenom, and we could've easily envisioned the lad joining the Bavarian morass," Eberl said, candidly. "Now he's taken a different path, despite the heart-to-hearts."

The Bayern board, along with esteemed honorary presidents Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, were all privy to the talks with Wirtz: "Every single factotum graced us with their presence. But Florian went a different route. That's the nature of the transfer market," Eberl succinctly put it.

Eberl holds a firm belief that Wirtz will excel at Liverpool. Instead, Bayern is now hunting for "another incredible player who could join us in triumph." And they're not in a hurry: "We boast an array of top-class players as it is. If I mention Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Joshua Kimmich, and more," Eberl said.

Eberl drew an analogy from the transfer market, saying, "One door shuts, another one opens." There's chatter about FC Bayern's interest in Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, but Eberl preferred to remain coy on the subject.

The attack's requirement at Bayern received a boost with Leroy Sané's free transfer to Galatasaray Istanbul. "It's his life decision, wholly legit. No hard feelings," Eberl, confidently, remained optimistic that the Bayern squad would be "a force to reckon with."
