The ancient secret vow by the kiddie jury brought the curtain up on the Children's Media Fest "Golden Sparrow" in the old-school Thuringian city of Gera. The 33rd version of the largest German-speaking kiddie media jamboree rocked off with the German premiere of the movie "The Secret Floor," directed by Norbert Lechner. Thuringia's Minister President Mario Voigt (CDU) threw the fest organizers a surprise. The Free State will give the Golden Sparrow Children's Media Foundation an extra 75,000 euros, boosting the annual total to 285,000 euros. This ticks off a key point in the government's contract: to turn Thuringia into a hub for kids' media, both now and in the future. "The extra dough will bolster the foundation's higher operating costs, allow more quality time with the kid jury, and boost the quality of the diverse foundation activities, way beyond the festival itself," Voigt explained.
