OpenAI Set to Become World's Most Valuable Startup at $6.6B Valuation

OpenAI, the AI research and deployment company, is set to become the world's most valuable startup following a recent share sale. The transaction values OpenAI at around $6.6 billion, surpassing SpaceX's valuation of approximately $400 billion. If confirmed, this would make OpenAI the most valuable startup globally.

The sale, which involved investors such as SoftBank, Thrive Capital, Dragoneer, MGX from Abu Dhabi, and T. Rowe Price, comes on the heels of OpenAI's impressive financial performance. In the first half of 2025 alone, the company generated around $4.3 billion in revenue.

OpenAI's ambitious plans for the future have also attracted significant investment. Chip giant Nvidia pledged an investment worth up to $100 billion, although this has raised concerns about a potential bubble in the generative AI sector. Meanwhile, OpenAI's rival Anthropic raised $13 billion at a $183 billion valuation last month, indicating continued investor interest in the sector.

OpenAI's latest valuation reflects its growing influence and potential in the AI sector. With plans to spend hundreds of billions over the coming years to build computing infrastructure, the company is positioning itself for continued growth. SoftBank's previous commitment of $40 billion by the end of 2025, valuing OpenAI at $300 billion at the time, underscores the confidence investors have in the company's prospects.
