Totin' Up with the "Reichsbürger": A Chilly Beer Garden Chat About Toppling the Government

Alleged Talk of Government Overthrow Discussed in Beer Garden (According to Witness) - Open Microphone Dialogue: Alleged Discussion of Government Uprooting at the Beer Garden

In theito, the high-profile trial of the alleged "Reichsbürger" group — centering around Heinrich XIII. Prince Reuss — took an amusing turn when a witness testified about a potentially dicey conversation over brews about a feasible, bloody government overthrow. A previous top-ranking military man speaking of the feds, this ex-general shared a glass with defendant Maximilian Eder in a Bavarian watering hole.

Initially, Eder begged the ex-colonel to keep their phones on lock, setting the stage for their tête-à-tête. The conversation's course veered toward remonstrating the current administration and even discussed offing particular politicos, such as the former Federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn.

Snitching like a pro

Eager to seize power following a possible government change, Eder suggested the Ministry of Defense would need a facelift, with the witness and another general playing instrumental roles in this new political regime. Unsettled by Eder's belligerent plans, the witness promptly reached out to the military security service the day after the tête-à-tête, reporting that Eder was treading on dangerous territory. The stakes were too steep for there to be any ambiguity about Eder's nefarious schemes.

Going way back

These two rascals have had each other in their sights since 1990 — they chummed it up at a general staff course within the Bundeswehr. Over the next couple of decades, they kept in touch now and again, meeting up occasionally. However, as the corona virus pandemic hit the scene, their beliefs diverged — the witness embracing the mainstream, while Eder developed his anti-corona measures stance. The ex-general described Eder's convictions as wishful thinking, with a penchant for impractical solutions.

The Woman's Trustee accuses Eder of coup scheming

The ex-Bavarian soldier known as Eder found himself on the wrong side of the law, according to the Federal Woman's Trustee. He was one of the founding members of the outfit, conspiring with other members to oust the German government by force. He allegedly also enlisted active Bundeswehr soldiers to back his group’s objectives. In January 2022, he even penned a draft for the federal government's removal decree.

The Federal Woman's Trustee charges the nine defendants in Frankfurt with either being members of a terrorist group or assisting their endeavors. The ultimate objective was to violently overthrow the existing order and replace it with their own, which had already been outlined in rudimentary form.

The Frankfurt courtroom adventure will continue on May 13th.
