Open-air park in Dusseldorf faces rocky initial phase
The much-anticipated AC/DC concert in Düsseldorf, originally scheduled for the Open Air Park, has been moved to the Merkur Spiel-Arena on July 8, 2025. This change of venue comes with updated ticketing options, including VIP packages, to accommodate the new venue's facilities and audience capacity.
Fans with Golden Circle Tickets (Front of Stage) will have access with their old ticket and do not need an additional ticket. For customers with standing tickets or tickets for the wheelchair area, exchange tickets will be sent via email from eventim. The entrance for the concert at the Merkur Spiel-Arena will open at 3 PM.
The Merkur Spiel-Arena can accommodate around 15,000 guests in its indoor area, making it a suitable venue for the large-scale event. Larger venues like this commonly offer VIP packages or premium products as part of their ticket sales, reflecting enhanced amenities or exclusive experiences not always available at smaller or open-air parks.
VIP products are now available for booking in the webshop for the AC/DC concert at the Merkur Spiel-Arena. Prices per ticket range from 449 to 479 euros (including service and catering). The loges and business seats at the Merkur Spiel-Arena are also available as VIP products for booking.
The decision to move the concert was not related to the B-Plan procedure for the Open Air Park, as stated by the CEO of D.LIVE, Michael Brill. The premiere of the Open Air Park has been postponed to 2026, and the planned tree felling on the site for the Open Air Park has been temporarily cancelled due to the postponement.
The city council's final approval for the Düsseldorf Open Air Park is expected on May 28. Despite the change of venue, the concert with world stars will still take place in Düsseldorf. Michael Brill stated that the Düsseldorf Open Air Park strengthens Düsseldorf's position as a top location for live entertainment.
D.LIVE can react flexibly to changing requirements and move shows to other venues in Düsseldorf, ensuring that fans do not miss out on their favourite events. Only about half of the tickets for the AC/DC concert at the Düsseldorf Open Air Park have been sold so far. It remains to be seen how the move to the Merkur Spiel-Arena will impact ticket sales for the highly anticipated concert.
