Strong Winds Continue to Affect Multiple Cities in Türkiye

A yellow alert remains in effect for several cities in the Marmara and Aegean regions, including Istanbul, due to strong winds and potential storms. The alert, issued by local authorities, advises residents to exercise caution, especially for activities that may be affected by meteorological conditions.

According to the latest reports, the strong winds from the north and northeast are expected to continue until the night of Aug. 14 in cities such as Istanbul, Edirne, Kirklareli, Tekirdag, Yalova, and the western districts of Kocaeli. Wind speeds are anticipated to reach 40-60 kilometers per hour, and at times 60-80 kilometers per hour.

Eleven cities in total have been placed under yellow alert, including Balikesir, Canakkale, Manisa, Bursa, and Izmir in addition to the cities mentioned earlier. The Istanbul Governorship has also issued a warning for the strong winds.

Residents in the affected cities are urged to be vigilant, as the strong winds may cause transportation disruptions and potentially lead to roof damage or falling trees. Authorities recommend taking necessary precautions against these potential dangers.

However, as of August 22, 2025, there are no specific severe weather alerts reported for Istanbul or the broader Marmara and Aegean regions. The weather in Istanbul is currently warm and mostly sunny, with temperatures ranging between 26°C (early morning) and up to 35°C (daytime highs). Light breezes of approximately 18 kilometers per hour from the north-northeast direction have been noted, indicating no strong wind warnings.

Air quality in Istanbul is good, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 37, and no pollution-related health precautions are currently necessary. The UV index is low, meaning minimal sunburn risk, but standard sun protection is advisable during peak sunlight hours. No notable precipitation or storms have been reported in recent days.

In light of these conditions, residents in Istanbul and the affected regions are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure when temperatures are high, use standard sun protection, and monitor local weather services or authorities for updates regarding any sudden weather changes or seismic activity. No umbrellas or rain gear appear necessary as rain chances are very low currently.

For more information, residents can consult local weather services or authorities for the most up-to-date information on weather conditions and potential hazards in their area.
