Only one out of twelve online gambling platforms in Germany deemed lawful by the regulator

The German Sports Betting Association (DSWV) and the Joint Gambling Authority of the federal states (GGL) have issued a joint statement regarding the high number of illegal stake casino sites in operation in Germany, particularly ahead of the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign.

According to the DSWV, only 1 in 12 stake casino sites are operating legally in the country, with a reported 382 illegal stake casino sites taking bets ahead of the UEFA Champions League season. These sites are typically operated by international entities without valid German licenses, often using technical methods like VPNs or multiple domains to evade detection and legal restrictions imposed by German authorities.

The operators of these illegal stake casino sites do not adhere to Germany's strict regulations and do not pay taxes, posing significant risks to players. The DSWV has highlighted the comparison between the number of illegal stake casino websites and the legal options for bettors in Germany.

In contrast, there are 34 licensed entities that pay tax and abide by Germany's strict regulations. The DSWV has called for increased regulation of stake casino sites in Germany to ensure player safety and to combat the proliferation of illegal stake casino.

The DSWV and GGL have not disclosed a plan for addressing the issue of illegal stake casino sites, nor have they stated whether they will increase efforts to regulate stake casino sites ahead of the UEFA Champions League campaign. They have not specified the potential consequences for these illegal stake casino sites either.

The German Sports Betting Association (DSWV) has drawn attention to the issue of illegal stake casino in Germany, particularly in relation to the upcoming soccer season. They have issued a warning about the high volume of illegal stake casino websites in operation in Germany and have expressed concern about the risks associated with these sites.

The DSWV and GGL have provided figures to the DSWV regarding the number of illegal stake casino sites in operation in Germany, but have not yet announced any concrete measures to address the issue. The DSWV has emphasised the importance of player safety and the need for increased regulation in the online stake casino industry in Germany.
