Unleashing Victory in Ruka: Germans Shine in Ski Jumping
The German ski jumpers kick-off the winter World Cup with an impressive team performance and incredible success. Amidst the snowflurry of Ruka, experienced Pius Paschke stuns everyone by landing in second place.
Firing off jumps measuring 142 and 142.5 meters, the Bavarian faced a narrow loss against the exceptional Austrian Stefan Kraft (144 and 143 meters). Trailing behind, Stephan Leyhe claimed third place, and Andreas Wellinger, the qualification ace, concluded an outstanding German team result in an impressive fourth place.
"We're off to a flying start"
National coach Stefan Horngacher spoke to ARD enthusiastically. "We've made a few adjustments. We're maintaining our ski jumping ideology. The team is in excellent form. We have a fantastic team spirit. We're off to a flying start!" he stated with pride. Following the remarkable trio of Paschke, Leyhe, and Wellinger, Philipp Raimund shone brightly in seventh place. Karl Geiger positioned himself in eleventh, and Martin Hamann placed twelfth. At an early stage, four German athletes dominated the classification in the first attempt.
Notable athletes, however, experienced setbacks. Previous overall World Cup winner, Halvor Egner Granerud from Norway, shuffled past 16th place. Poland’s renowned ski jumping sensation, Kamil Stoch, ranked 43rd. Any additional individual events are scheduled for Sunday.
Unity is the Horngacher team's greatest asset. The team has been on point in preparation, leaving no room for the former individual world champion Markus Eisenbichler. This season is devoid of the Nordic World Ski Championships and the Winter Olympics. The focal events for the skiers are the Four Hills Tournament around the turn of the year and the Ski Flying World Championships at Kulm in Austria in January.
- Surprisingly, veteran skier Pius Paschke climbed to second place in the challenging World Cup event in Ruka, narrowly lagging behind Stefan Kraft from Austria.
- Germany demonstrated their prowess in the World Cup winter competitions, with Andreas Wellinger securing an impressive fourth-place finish after Stefan Kraft, Stephan Leyhe, and Pius Paschke.
- Germany's impressive showing continued with Philipp Raimund's strong performance, Karl Geiger's solid effort, and Martin Hamann's commendable display.
