Online survey reveals Internet and Facebook as most-used news sources among Filipinos
A new survey conducted by PUBLiCUS Asia, Inc., named PAHAYAG, has shed light on the news consumption habits and trust ratings of Filipino registered voters in the second quarter of 2025.
The survey revealed that the Internet, including social media and streaming platforms, plays a significant role in daily news consumption. One in three registered voters consider these platforms a consistent part of their daily news intake, while one in two voters cited social media as their primary source. Despite the survey not specifying the primary source of daily news, the findings suggest that the Internet and Facebook could be the leading sources.
In terms of traditional media, television ranked third as a source of political news and current affairs. Both GMA7 and ABS-CBN saw a significant rebound in high and very high trust ratings in the second quarter, with improvements particularly noted in North-Central Luzon. PTV4 and UNTV recorded notable gains in moderate trust, effectively reducing their low to no trust ratings.
The print and digital news outlets category also saw changes. Business Mirror and The Manila Times gained high trust, while several outlets, including Philippine Star, Rappler, Summit Express, Sunstar Philippines, Abante, Politiko Online, and FYT Media, grew in moderate trust.
It is important to note that the PAHAYAG survey was an independent, non-commissioned nationwide purposive sampling survey.
In addition to the Internet and television, Facebook emerged as a top source of political news and current affairs for Filipinos, with the Internet taking the lead position. The findings underscore the increasing reliance of Filipinos on digital platforms for news and information.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, understanding the preferences and trust levels of the public is crucial. This survey provides valuable insights into the news consumption habits and trust ratings of Filipino registered voters, offering a starting point for further analysis and potential improvements in the delivery of news and information.
