Starting from March 11 at noon, North Carolina will officially enter the world of sports betting. Customers will be able to register for betting accounts, make deposits, and take advantage of North Carolina betting promos.
The well-respected DFS operator, Underdog Sports, will debut its mobile sportsbook in North Carolina as part of the eight operators expected to go live. Other notable operators such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM, which have a national sports betting presence outside North Carolina, will also be available.
The North Carolina Lottery Commission is ensuring that all applicants meet the necessary requirements before the launch. The Commission needs to check the internal controls of the applicants and issue certificates of compliance. The Commission is still in the process of approving sports wagering license applicants.
The launch of North Carolina's sports betting occurs before March Madness, which begins on March 19. This means basketball fans will have ample opportunity to place bets on their favourite teams. Notably, both Duke University and the University of North Carolina's men's basketball teams are considered ACC and national title contenders.
The ACC men's basketball conference tournament starts on March 12, featuring four North Carolina teams. Meanwhile, the NFL's AFC Championship game will take place with the Chiefs visiting the Ravens, while the NFC Championship game will see the 49ers hosting the Lions.
Interestingly, San Francisco has the highest odds of +135 at FanDuel to win the Super Bowl, which takes place on February 11. Unfortunately, the legal sportsbook mobile apps in North Carolina will not be live before this event.
The North Carolina Lottery Commission will meet again early next week, and the sports betting committee will meet shortly after. These meetings will likely discuss the progress of the sports betting launch and any remaining issues.
The official in-state partners for these eight sportsbooks are: bet365 (N.C.) and Charlotte Hornets, BetMGM (N.C.) and Charlotte Motor Speedway, Caesars Sportsbook (N.C.) and Tribal Casino Gaming Enterprise Cherokee, DraftKings (N.C.) and NASCAR, ESPN BET (N.C.) and Quail Hollow Golf Club, Fanatics Sportsbook (N.C.) and Carolina Hurricanes, FanDuel (N.C.) and PGA Tour, and Underdog Sports and McConnell Golf.
