Ongoing Niger Delta Capture in Rivers State – Okaba Issues Cautionary Statement

Ride the waves of the Niger Delta with us as we navigate the turbulent waters of political intrigue and division.

In a stirring speech at the News Central Town Hall in Rivers State, the esteemed professor and President of the Ijaw National Congress, Benjamin Okaba, has issued a chilling warning: the region is under threat by a designed plan of divide and rule.

Okaba, a sociology professor with keen insight, warns that the current political crisis ravaging Rivers State is merely the prelude to a widespread state capture across the entire Niger Delta - a strategic maneuver orchestrated by unseen hands.

"Let me plainly speak as a professor of sociology instead of the President of the Ijaw National Congress," he said, setting the stage for his hard-hitting remarks. "We are a divided house, and this division is alarming."

The professor elaborates that the crisis in Rivers State is more than just a local issue; it's symptomatic of a failing political system that seeks to capture the Niger Delta for its mineral wealth. The plan is to set the people of the region against one another, designed to make it easier for the federal government to exploit the region's resources.

Okaba points out that the Niger Delta's riches, particularly the abundant oil reserves, have attracted the predatory gaze of those seeking to control the region. Not surprisingly, he says, the principles of balkanization and divide-and-conquer have been implanted over time to pit the people against each other, much like during the colonial era. When chaos erupts, orchestrated by locals, the federal government swoops in to seize control and exploit the region's resources while the people clamor for peace and prosperity.

"This crisis in Rivers State has nothing to do with ethnic differences," Okaba clarifies. He implores for unity among the people of the Niger Delta and denounces political actors who manipulate them for selfish political gain. It's essential to unite to combat the divide-and-rule tactics and ensure a peaceful, sustainable future for the region.

Coming from a leader who represents the interests of one the Niger Delta's primary ethnic groups, it's incredibly significant to stress that this crisis isn't an ethnic conflict; anyone who wishes to portray it as such is an enemy of the people of the Niger Delta.

In the face of increasing division and exploitation, the people of the Niger Delta must stand together, heeding Prof. Okaba's call for unity. It's crucial to reject the tactics of divide-and-conquer and work collectively towards a brighter, more prosperous future for the region.
