Ongoing disagreement between Micah Parsons' mother and Jerry Jones persists, with Jones holding firm in the Dallas Cowboys standoff.
Micah Parsons' Contract Dispute with Dallas Cowboys Remains Unresolved
In a surprising turn of events, All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons did not participate in the Cowboys' final padded practice of camp on Wednesday, as contract negotiations with team owner Jerry Jones have hit a roadblock.
Parsons officially requested a trade from the Cowboys on August 1, 2025, after contract negotiations stalled throughout the offseason. As of late August, no direct communication has occurred between Parsons and the Cowboys' management since the trade request, resulting in a stalemate.
The key issue is the Cowboys reportedly negotiating behind closed doors without Parsons' agent present, leading the player to feel disrespected and frustrated. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones claims they had reached an agreement in principle on contract terms with Parsons but that Parsons' agent intervened and cut off discussions. Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta, disputes this, maintaining the team hasn't formally discussed a new deal.
Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract under a fifth-year option for 2025. A long-term extension has not been agreed upon. The Cowboys have not indicated intentions to trade Parsons and hold the franchise tag rights over the next two years, controlling him through at least 2027 if needed.
The situation remains tense and fluid, hinging on whether the Cowboys and Parsons can resume negotiations with all parties at the table or if the trade request will force a move before the regular season begins. Parsons has not spoken about the contract dispute publicly, stating "my mouth is closed." Jerry Jones has not made any public statements indicating optimism about a resolution to the contract dispute.
Micah Parsons, a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection, announced his trade request in a social media post on August 1st, stating "I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys." The Cowboys are currently paying Parsons $24.007 million in the final year of his rookie contract.
As the regular-season opener against Philadelphia approaches on Sept. 7, the Cowboys and Parsons' camp are yet to come to terms on a deal. The Cowboys have not set a deadline for negotiations, leaving the future of one of their star players uncertain.
