Ongoing Alert for Weather Condition Persists

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a weather forecast for the districts of Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, and Coimbra, as well as the cities of Évora, Sines, and Aveiro, for Thursday and the following days.

In the recent past, these districts were under weather warnings, including orange alerts for Coimbra, Leiria, and Lisbon, signaling a risk of flooding and landslides. However, the warnings for these coastal districts are scheduled to end at 6:00 pm on Thursday. High temperatures with clear skies and sometimes strong winds were forecasted, but a decline in temperatures is expected on central coastal areas.

Évora is repeatedly noted as the hottest area in the country, with temperatures around 40°C or more. The inland Alentejo region, including Évora, is expected to face a heat wave with temperatures reaching up to 44°C during this heat period lasting into early August.

Sines and Aveiro are the areas with the lowest maximum temperatures among those mentioned, typically around 29°C, reflecting cooler coastal influences.

The overall trend includes high temperatures across the inland regions and some coastal districts with warnings for heat and occasional severe weather incidents like flooding in some parts. The yellow warnings for heat have been extended in many districts and may persist through Tuesday or mid-week depending on the area.

Moderate to strong winds are expected in the highlands. The IPMA predicts continued hot weather. For the most accurate up-to-date info, checking IPMA’s real-time forecasts is recommended as weather warnings and conditions can change rapidly.

As the warnings for the majority of the region will last until midnight on Saturday, it is crucial to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of hot weather.

During the given period, the forecast for Sines and Aveiro indicates temperatures similar to those of coastal regions, typically around 29°C. Concurrently, weather-forecasting agencies predict high temperatures with strong winds in the highlands, signaling a need for meticulous weather monitoring via the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
