ONGC launches gas production from DUDP offshore field ahead of schedule

ONGC has begun gas production from its DUDP offshore project, marking a key step in monetising the field. Located roughly 180 kilometres northwest of Mumbai, the project is now feeding gas to the Hazira processing plant. The company completed the development in under two years, well ahead of typical timelines. The DUDP project reached first gas after the B-12-24P platform was successfully commissioned. ONGC credited the rapid delivery to strong project execution and an innovative drill-deck approach. With a capital investment of around USD 1 billion, the field is set to become a significant part of the company's offshore production.

ONGC plans to gradually increase output from all wells in phases. This approach aims to stabilise production and maximise long-term recovery. The project aligns with the company's broader strategy of boosting domestic hydrocarbon output while maintaining strict execution standards in offshore operations.

The DUDP development follows other major initiatives in ONGC's portfolio. These include ongoing production enhancements at Mumbai High—India's largest offshore oil field—and partial decommissioning of the Panna-Mukta-Tapti fields. Meanwhile, investments like the KG-DWN-98/2 project off Andhra Pradesh highlight the firm's expanding focus on eastern offshore regions. The DUDP project is now online, adding to India's domestic gas supply. ONGC's phased production ramp-up will help ensure steady output while optimising recovery rates. The successful launch reinforces the company's ability to deliver complex offshore projects efficiently.
