One-year anniversary of Navalny's passing in custody
In the heart of Paris, the Amphithéâtre Jacques Chapsal will host a significant event on the evening of an unspecified date. The event will be a screening and discussion of the award-winning documentary, "Navalny."
The documentary, produced by the Academy Award and BAFTA Award-winning producer Odessa Rae, has received critical acclaim, winning Best Documentary Feature at the 95th Academy Awards and Best Documentary at the 76th BAFTA Awards. The film focuses on the life and work of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who tragically passed away in prison one year ago.
Odessa Rae, who is also known for her acting work, will participate in the event, having originated and produced the groundbreaking documentary. Joining her will be Clarissa Ward, CNN's multi-award-winning Chief International Correspondent, based in London. Ward's reporting on the joint investigation by The Insider, Bellingcat, CNN, and Der Spiegel, which uncovered the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) members' role in stalking Alexei Navalny, including before his poisoning in August 2020, has been instrumental in shedding light on this matter.
Gilles Favarel-Garrigues, a CNRS senior research fellow and expert on Russian politics and society, will moderate the discussion. Favarel-Garrigues is also a Sciences Po CERI researcher, bringing a wealth of knowledge to the table.
Stéphanie Balme, Director of CERI (Sciences Po/CNRS), will deliver the opening remarks, setting the tone for the evening.
Following the screening, which will take place from 5 pm to 6:40 pm, a Q&A session will be held from 6:40 pm to 7:30 pm, offering attendees the opportunity to engage with the participants and delve deeper into the topics discussed in the documentary.
This promises to be an enlightening and thought-provoking event, shedding light on pressing global issues and the ongoing investigation into Alexei Navalny's poisoning. For those interested in Russian politics, journalism, and documentary filmmaking, this is an event not to be missed.
The event at the Amphithéâtre Jacques Chapsal, focusing on Alexei Navalny's life and work, will showcase the power of investigative journalism in uncovering crime and justice issues.
