On the 15th of August, 2025: Reliability testing for AfD gun owners and obstruction by Animal Rebellion at Saxon milk access points

In Saxony, 71 members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party who legally own weapons are currently undergoing reliability vetting by the authorities. This follows the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) classifying the AfD as a "confirmed right-wing extremist endeavor" in 2025, allowing for intensified scrutiny of its members.

The vetting process, which is ongoing, includes monitoring weapon ownership and reliability checks to ensure that members do not misuse their weapons in ways that threaten democratic order. However, detailed public information on individual assessment outcomes or specific procedural stages is not available at this time.

The majority of the procedures are still ongoing, with most located in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Osterzgebirge. So far, 69 of the 71 vetting procedures have been initiated. In three cases, objections have been raised, and weapon permits have been withdrawn in two cases.

Meanwhile, in another development, animal rights activists blocked the entrance to the Sachsenmilch dairy in Leppersdorf on Friday morning. The milk processed at the dairy comes from so-called year-round tie-stall housing, where cows are chained to a place in the stall for their entire lives. The activists claimed that the company was co-responsible for great animal suffering. The blockade was ended late in the morning, involving 41 people.

Elsewhere, the war in Ukraine will be a central topic in the meeting between US President Trump and Kremlin leader Putin today at a US base in Alaska at 9:30 PM CET. The exact details of the meeting are yet to be disclosed, but it is expected to be a significant event in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

On the entertainment front, around 12,000 spectators are expected for the DFB Cup match of 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig against FC Schalke 04, scheduled to take place in the Bruno-Plache Stadium on Sunday, August 17.

Finally, the book "The Death of Democracy" was reported on by our website today. The book offers a chilling account of the rise of fascism in Germany and the lessons it holds for modern democracies.

MDR Saxony reported on both incidents, providing updates on the developments in Saxony and the ongoing vetting procedures for AfD members as well as the blockade at the Sachsenmilch dairy. Additionally, they reported on the CSD in Naumburg, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday, August 16. Joint travel from Leipzig is at 10:30 AM from platform 7 at the main station.

In Naumburg, some activists reportedly glued their hands to the road, according to the police directorate of Görlitz. The incident caused a blockade, with dozens of trucks backed up towards the highway. The blockade was ended late in the morning.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, animal rights activists obstructed the entrance to the Sachsenmilch dairy in Leppersdorf, voicing concerns over the treatment of cows in year-round tie-stall housing, resulting in the withdrawal of weapon permits in two cases related to the AfD members.
