On Russia Day in Yakutsk, renowned athletes demonstrates their skills in specialized workshops

In the heart of Yakutsk's Old Town, an exciting event unfolded, with masterclasses conducted by high-profile athletes from the city and beyond. None other than the world boxing vice-champion, Vasily Egorov, along with GTO multi-event champions Ignat Chomchoyev and Gavril Vinokurov, graced the gatherings with their expert skills — all reported by Yakutia 24.

Want to know more about GTO multi-events? Here's a quick lowdown. These events are part of Russia's GTO (Get Ready for Labor and Defense) program, designed to cultivate physical fitness and prepare citizens for potential military service and unexpected circumstances. In Yakutia, it's all about equipping residents for endurance and facing any challenges in life, be it work, hunting, or military situations.

Back in 2019, they set the stage with the '12.06' kettlebell complex, dedicated to celebrating Russia's National Day. And today, it was time to show off these skills. Yuvi Semenov, Yakutia's Deputy Prime Minister, encouraged everyone to embrace sports and loyalty to their motherland.

With the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of Yakutia's support, this event marked Russia Day celebrations, drawing around 50 eager participants. Leonid Spiridonov, the minister of physical culture and sports, was proud that their young athletes were flying the Russian flag on international stages. He emphasized their pride in local talents leading these masterclasses.

Welcoming the attendees on Russia Day, Georgy Balakshin, the Chairman of the Il Tumen for Youth, Physical Culture, and Sports, shared a historical note. On June 12, 1990, the Russian Federation's sovereignty declaration was adopted.

Vasily Egorov, a world-renowned boxing master, demonstrated a variety of boxing warm-ups, while CrossFit champions Ignat Chomchoyev and Gavril Vinokurov showcased CrossFit elements during the event. The excitement didn't just stop there — kids participated in engaging quizzes that offered valuable prizes as well.

Now, GTO multi-events might facilitate individual preparedness in several ways:

  1. Physical Fitness: By involving various physical challenges, GTO events build overall fitness and readiness for physical demands in everyday life and various activities.
  2. Hunting Skills: Although not directly linked, the mental and physical resilience developed through GTO events can aid hunters by improving endurance and maintaining focus.
  3. Military Preparedness: The program is specifically designed to prepare citizens for potential military service by testing skills relevant to military training, including obedience, teamwork, and resilience under pressure.
  4. Community Engagement: Participating in GTO events, such as those during Russia Day celebrations, fosters a sense of community and national pride, encouraging involvement in local initiatives and emergency preparedness programs.
  5. Ignat Chomchoyev and Gavril Vinokurov, recognized as GTO multi-event champions, demonstrated CrossFit elements during the masterclass event, showcasing the versatility of these sports.
  6. The Russian Federation's GTO program, celebrated in Yakutia, focuses not only on physical fitness but also on equipping residents for endurance and preparedness for various challenges, including work, hunting, and military situations.
  7. In addition to boxing, this year's Russia Day masterclass events included engaging quizzes for kids, offering valuable prizes and fostering an interactive learning environment.
  8. Along with Vasily Egorov, CrossFit champions Ignat Chomchoyev and Gavril Vinokurov showcased their skills, emphasizing the importance of mixed-martial-arts and CrossFit in developing overall fitness and resilience.
  9. Georgy Balakshin, the Chairman of the Il Tumen for Youth, Physical Culture, and Sports, reminded participants of the historical significance of June 12, marking the adoption of the Russian Federation's sovereignty declaration in 1990.
