In Almaty, Kazakhstan, the "Immortal Regiment" march is set to take place on May 9th, as reported by "Sputnik Kazakhstan". Kicking off at 10:00 AM from Central Park (formerly Gorky Park), the event will snake its way down Gogol Street.

According to Murat Abdushukurov, chairman of the "Union of Afghanistan Veterans", the patriotic event "Batyrlarga Tagzym" ("We Bow to the Heroes") has been given the green light by Almaty’s akimat. Participants, bearing photographs of their relatives who fought in the Great Patriotic War, will trek along Zenkov Street and end up at the Park of the 28 Panfilov Heroes, where they will pay their respects at the Eternal Flame.

As Abdushukurov points out, this event is a crucial part of maintaining an intergenerational understanding of the responsibility that each generation bears for their country. He firmly believes that this sentiment should be enshrined at the legislative level.

Abdushukurov also stresses the importance of setting a personal example to inspire heroism in the younger generation, echoing the sentiments of Leo Tolstoy.

The "Immortal Regiment" movement originated in Russia in 2012 as a public initiative to commemorate World War II veterans. When participants hit the streets with portraits of their relatives who had participated in the war, the movement quickly gained international recognition, spreading to numerous countries.

In Kazakhstan, the "Immortal Regiment" movement made its debut in 2013, and has since garnered widespread support among residents of cities like Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, and Petropavlovsk. Despite occasional restrictions on some marches, the movement remains a powerful symbol of Kazakhstan's struggle to balance its Soviet past with its current political relationships.
