Gearing Up for Raajneeti 2: Prakash Jha Confirms Sequel, Reveals Insights
On its 15th anniversary, filmmaker Prakash Jha announces the sequel to political drama "Raajneeti," with the script and cast reportedly being finalized.
It's been a decade and a half since Prakash Jha's Raajneeti graced the silver screen, leaving an indelible mark on Bollywood. The masterpiece, adapted from the Mahabharata, featured a stellar cast - Ranbir Kapoor (Arjun), Ajay Devgn (Karna), Nana Patekar (Krishna), Katrina Kaif (Draupadi), Arjun Rampal (Bhima), Manoj Bajpayee (Duryodhana), Sarah Thompson (Subhadra), and Naseeruddin Shah (the God).
Raajneeti 2 on the Horizon
As the film reaches its 15th anniversary, Director Prakash Jha confirms that a sequel to Raajneeti is indeed on the horizon. In a recent interview, he said, "Raajneeti (politics) is an ongoing journey, it continues! There's always been a plan for Raajneeti 2. While there are no definitive plans regarding casting and shooting just yet, I am currently working on it."
A Cast of Thousands
Pre-production for Raajneeti took a year, during which 8,000 actors were cast for authentic crowd scenes - quite the feat!
Uniting the Stars
The casting for the project was successful, as each actor appreciated the script's complexity and was determined to deliver a stellar performance. Prakash reminisced, "People may call Raajneeti a commercial success, but for me, other films like Damul (1984), Mritudand (1997), Gangajal (2003), Apaharan (2005) or Satyagraha (2013) are simply films. But it's gratifying when people talk about them."
Cult Music
Raajneeti boasted an impressive soundtrack, composed by Aadesh Shrivastava, Pritam, Shantanu Moitra, and Wayne Sharpe, with lyrics penned by Gulzar, Irshad Kamil, Sameer, and Swanand Kirkire. Prakash fondly recalls how Aadesh came up with Mora Piya Mose Bolat Nahin during a brainstorming session. The song resonated so well with the film that it was integrated seamlessly. Kavita Seth, who sang the track, cherishes it as one of her biggest hits to date.
