The historic Great Guild Hall in Riga, a cultural and historical monument dating back to the 14th century and currently home to the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO), is undergoing a significant renovation and insulation project.

Demolition works have been completed, and energy efficiency improvement solutions have been agreed upon in the project so far. The future implementation of the project will involve restoration works of historic wooden windows and doors, starting of structural assembly works, rebuilding of internal engineering networks, and insulating the roof to improve energy efficiency.

The total investment in the development of the Great Guild is planned to be around EUR 16.2 million (including VAT), with the Ministry of Culture attracting funding of EUR 10.08 million from the European Union Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027.

The project, which is planned to be implemented by the end of 2026, will also involve various technical improvements. The renovation will allow for enjoying music in acoustic conditions that meet modern standards. The Great Hall stage, audience seating, and ceiling structures will be rebuilt during the reconstruction and restoration.

The restoration process has specific requirements and must be carried out in cooperation with the Latvian National Heritage Board. The historic wooden windows and doors will be restored to maintain the building's original charm.

Indra Lūkina, a member of the LNSO Board, expressed pleasure about the renovation-insulation project being in the realization phase and works progressing rapidly. The project, according to Jelēna Gavrilova, Member of the VNĪ Board, forms a fundamental pillar of art, culture, and music with a glorious past.

A time capsule containing messages for future generations, including information about the project participants, wishes, artistic and philosophical messages, and possible finders of the capsule, has been placed in the foundation of the stage of the Great Guild's Great Hall.

While specific details about the progress and expected completion date of the project are not readily available, it may be necessary to consult official Latvian cultural heritage or symphony orchestra sources or recent local news not covered in the existing search results for more precise and recent updates.
