OMV Petrom launches €45 million sulfur unit in green refinery push
OMV Petrom has unveiled a new sulfur recovery unit at its Petrobrazi refinery, marking another step in its €2 billion modernization drive. The €45 million facility aims to cut emissions while improving operational flexibility. Meanwhile, the company’s stock lingers near €46, reflecting cautious optimism from analysts despite a dip in recent profits.
The latest investment comes as part of a long-term push to upgrade the Petrobrazi site. Since 2005, OMV Petrom has poured over €2 billion into modernizing the refinery, with sustainability now taking center stage. The sulfur recovery unit will help meet stricter emissions rules while preparing for future demand in green fuels.
The new sulfur unit is running, and the SAF plant is set for 2028. Both projects form part of OMV Petrom’s broader shift towards cleaner production. With €2 billion already spent on upgrades, the company’s next challenge is proving these moves can deliver long-term growth.
