Ombudsman ultimately secures victory at the York tournament, despite a close 150-1 challenger aiming for an upset.

In a thrilling race at York Racecourse, Ombudsman, the 7-4 favourite, clinched victory in the Juddmonte International Stakes. The race, which did not unfold predictably, saw a strong performance from the Godolphin-owned horse, ridden by jockey William Buick.

At halfway, Birr Castle, sent from France by trainer Andre Fabre to set a pace for Ombudsman, held a clear lead. However, on the turn, Ombudsman began to show his true potential, opening up a lead of up to 30 lengths. Other horses opted to sit off him, allowing Birr Castle to maintain a lead for much of the race.

Buick's judgment and the horse's attributes were evident as Ombudsman maintained his lead. The Japanese jockey with Rab allowed Ombudsman to slip the field, but the favourite caught up and eventually came through to pick off Birr Castle and win the race.

The victory marks the sixth time Godolphin has won the Juddmonte International. Trainer Aidan O'Brien, who relied solely on Delacroix as a pacemaker this time, was full of praise for Ombudsman's performance.

O'Brien had earlier run Lambourn in the Great Voltigeur, a decision made to give the horse the option of either the Leger or the Arc. Unfortunately, Lambourn did not make the frame in the Great Voltigeur. However, O'Brien remains confident about Lambourn's chances in the Leger, stating that he knows the horse stays a mile and a half well.

Meanwhile, Paddy Twomey's runner-up Carmers is on course for the St Leger. This potential duel between Carmers and Lambourn promises to add an exciting dimension to the upcoming races.

Looking ahead, Ombudsman's likely next race is the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. With his impressive performance at York, it's clear that Ombudsman is a horse to watch in the upcoming races.
